Welcome to Wheathampstead Osteopathic Clinic

 What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a regulated profession, with all osteopaths required by law to register with the General Osteopathic Council, who ensure that all osteopaths operate to high professional standards.

Osteopathy is a manual therapy approach to treating muscle and joint aches and pains that uses techniques such as articulation, physical manipulation, stretching, massage as well as fascial and visceral techniques. It works with the structure and function of the body, with the belief that the well-being of an individual depends on the health of the skeleton, muscles, ligaments, vascular and nervous systems functioning properly.

As well as working structurally, I can treat using the more gentler techniques of cranial osteopathy which is suitable for all ages, and particularly in treating children and babies and in the treatment of cervicogenic headaches and migraine prevention. I also provide advice on posture, stretches and exercise to aid recovery, promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses gentle techniques to encourage the release of tensions and restrictions in the body's ligaments, bones and fascia, including the head.

It is a gentle but effective technique that can be used on people of all ages and is particularly effective on children and in the treatment of headaches.

 Postural Assessments

Osteopathy can help with correcting misalignment or bad posture through assessment, treatment and advice, whether you are experiencing discomfort or are aware that you feel "twisted" or "uneven". These can develop in teenage years and can also be due to postural habits from:
  • Heavy school bags
  • Poor sitting posture
  • Driving position
  • Manual labour work
  • Carrying children

Paediatric Osteopathy

Muscular tensions and strains can occur in new-born babies, from the birthing process, to difficulty in feeding, lying positions and congestion/difficulties with digestion.

Cranial osteopathy and gentle fascial techniques offer a safe and gentle way to help relax and relieve tension in your baby to help make them more comfort.

Ultrasound therapy

Therapeutic ultrasound works by using a ultrasound waves that penetrates deep below the surface of your skin to vibrate molecules within the tissues. This aims to increase the local blood flow and circulation to an area to help reduce swelling and chronic inflammation.

Common conditions treated using ultrasound are acute or chronic tendonitis, e.g tennis elbow, achille’s tendonitis and shoulder tendonitis.
