 Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapist?

All three professions have a similar medical training but differ in principles, techniques and emphasis during treatment. Physiotherapists tend to focus on exercise rehabilitation, chiropractors tend to focus on manipulation of the spine and osteopaths tend to utilise exercise, manipulation, articulation and soft tissue massage as part of an integrated hollistic approach.

Do I need to have a GP referral to see you?

No, you do not need to be referred by your GP. In your first consultation we take a full case history, including medical history, so we have a thorough understanding of your medical health.

What clothing should I wear?

In order to do a full structural examination you will most probably be required to dress down to your underwear. However, if you do not feel comfortable with this, a sports bra and shorts will be fine.

How long will it take me to get better?

Every person will be different as we are all unique. It depends on many factors such as, age, lifestyle, general health and the nature of your complaint. You will be advised of what to expect and prognosis of your condition on your initial consultation. For acute complaints, early intervention or treatment is key to stopping it becoming a chronic problem. Some patients with more chronic complaints may benefit from regular maintenance treatments.

Can I claim through my health insurance plan?

Please check with your individual healthcare insurer to confirm your level of cover. All our Osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and on request we can give you a receipt of treatment and the GOsC ID number of the osteopath if the healthcare insurer requires it.
